Guide to Obtaining an EFKA Registration Number

Postgraduate students who do not possess, or are unsure whether they possess, an EFKA System Number (Insurance Registration Number) are required to follow the procedure described in the guide below.
The issuance of EFKA System Number (Insurance Registration Number from e-EFKA for non-EU students (third-country nationals) studying in Greece is necessary, mainly for the purpose of undertaking an internship.

For EU or Non-EU students who have an AMKA but not an EFKA System Number

Case A: For students who already have Taxisnet credentials

Step 1: Contact the Internship Office to request an Internship Certificate.
Step 2: Make an appointment with an EFKA office: They must make an appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA) to obtain an EFKA System Number.
The appointment will be made through the platform here using the taxisnet codes.

    Required documents for the appointment:
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Internship Certificate (requested from the Internship Office)
  • Tax Identification Number
  • full address & contact telephone numbers

Case B: Students who do not have taxisnet credentials

Step 1: Contact the Internship Ofice to obtain the relevant certificate.
Step 2: Request a Taxisnet code at gsis
Select: Initial Registration → Natural Person → Fill in the required information
Step 3: Appointment with EFKA. They will need to make an appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA) to issue the EFKA System Number.
The appointment will be made through the platform e-efka using the taxisnet codes.

    Required documents for the appointment:
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Internship Certificate (requested from the Internship Office)
  • Tax Identification Number
  • full address & contact telephone numbers

For EU or Non-EU students who do not have either an AMKA or an EFKA System Number

Case A: For students who already have Taxisnet credentials

Step 1: Contact the Internship Office to obtain your Internship Certificate.
Step 2: Make an appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA): You must make an appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA) to obtain both your AMKA and an EFKA System Number.
Theappointmentwill bemade through the platform e-efka using the taxisnet codes.

    For the appointment, they must have with them:
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Internship Certificate (requested from the Internship Office)
  • Tax Identification Number
  • full address & contact telephone numbers
  • Certificate of European citizenship or residence in Greece for study purposes from the Police Department.

Note: International students who do not have either an AMKA or an IKA AMA must first obtain the above certificate from a Police Department. Please note that police stations operate by appointment, so students are advised to complete this process in advance.

Case B: For students who do not already have taxisnet codes

Step 1: Request a Taxisnet code at https://www1.gsis.gr/registration/chooseRegistrationType.htm
Select: Initial Registration → Natural Person → Fill in the required information
Step 2: Contact the Internship Ofice to obtain your Internship Certificate.
Step 3: Appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA): They will need to make an appointment with EFKA (formerly IKA) to obtain both their AMKA and EFKA System Number.
The appointment will be made through the platform e-efka using the taxisnet codes.

    Required documents for the appointment:
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Internship Certificate (requested from the Internship Office)
  • Tax Identification Number
  • full address & contact telephone numbers
  • Certificate of European Citizenship or residence in Greece for study purposes from the Police Department.

Please note that foreign students who do not have an AMKA or AMA IKA number must first obtain the above certificate from a Police Station. Please note that police stations operate by appointment, so students are advised to complete this process in advance.
